The Red George Pub
Moving to the country from the city can be a big adjustment. This from the Gal who lamented moving from Toronto to Ottawa and having to suffer the poorer choices for international cuisine as a result. Alas, an hour south of the Capital undoubtedly yields even fewer culinary options. So you can imagine how thrilled I was to stumble upon The Red George Pub in Prescott, some 15 minutes drive from Crowder House.
The beautifully situated Red George Public House overlooks the St. Lawrence River and is housed in a wonderfully restored heritage building. Perhaps more importantly, The Red George is home to a brilliant Chef named Hamish Robb. It’s definitely worth the trip when Hamish is working. We tried one of his specials, a fabulous honey-glazed chicken dish with a tasty chutney topping and the ever-stellar Guinness Pot Pie. We went last Monday and returned with Richard by Saturday.
The Red George is a community-owned establishment, which might account for the extraordinarily friendliness of the staff and General Manager. If you are looking for a good restaurant in Eastern Ontario, I doubt you can find better – but be sure to arrive before 9 P.M. when the evening specials are put to bed!

During a recent visit to the Pub we had the BBQ. Everyone was very happy with their very generous selections of Chicken and Burgers and the sides that come with the meal. I will be making another trip to try out the remaining items available from the BBQ, FOr those that don’t want a bbq there are always yummy daily specials and from the menu Zydeco Pasta is one of my favourites.
The patio is a happening place overlooking the River. CHeck out the happy hour specials!
